Castle Vets Newsletter Spring 2008
New Ultrasound at Castle Vets ...
We have just added to our diagnostic equipment a new £9,000 Ultrasound centre.
This means that we can now peer inside your pets in even greater detail than before!
From pregnancy diagnosis to intricate eye examinations, we can now offer state of the art imaging to help us to help you.
We also have a new endoscope . . .
Fat fighters rejoice!
A new drug to help weight loss ... Yarvitan, heralded as the world’s first canine anti-obesity treatment, has arrived in the UK. It is a syrup simply added to the food which interferes with absorption of fat from the diet.
The result is a realistic loss of weight over a period of a couple of months of up to 8%!
This will be a ray of hope to owners of porky canines who have struggled with the lethargy and joint and heart problems associated with carting about too much lard.
It is inexpensive, so ask about using it on your canine calorie collector!
Felt any lumps recently?
There are loads of reasons for the appearance of lumps and bumps in or on pets. Many, such as bites, stings, warts, and abscesses are relatively straightforward. Some, such as tumours, can be more sinister, so it is vital to get any new swelling or lump checked by us as soon as you notice it. LUMPS AND BUMPS. DON’T IGNORE THEM!
Breakthrough for arthritis sufferers ...
A new diet, Hill’s J/D, is offering new hope for both dogs and cats suffering from stiff joints. It is specially formulated with high levels of Omega-3 fatty acid, which is proven to improve joint and cartilage health.
We were a little sceptical at first that a simple change in food could make much difference, but our experiences have proved us wrong. In as little as three weeks, owners have noticed that their pets are more lively, get up more easily, and are far more willing to take exercise.
Now we can offer Hill’s J/D on a "buy-one-get-one-free" deal for a short time to encourage you to give it a go. Imagine ... no drugs or supplements, just a simple diet change and Fido or Mittens could be moving a whole lot better!
All the ‘P’s – our new ‘PPP’s ...
Trying to work out the best way to worm and de-flea your pet can often lead to confusion. It is a shame to find oneself having to deal with a pet and a household humming with fleas when a simple treatment plan could have avoided the problem, so … introducing the
Personalised Parasite Plan or PPP. This is a simple card on which we offer you an annual guide to what to use and when, to keep your pooch or moggy free of internal and external visitors. These cards are free and available to anyone, so please just ask at reception and join the PPP club!
Senior Clinics For The Over 8s ...
What a marvellous term - senior - it conjures up pictures of genteel retirement combined with limitless respect from ones juniors - if only!
In the canine and feline world we use the term to describe the over eights. This is the age beyond which the conditions of ageing start to rear their heads, such as arthritis, heart disease, kidney failure, dental disease, and various forms of cancer.
We are now holding afternoon clinics run by our vets to focus on assessment and care for our ageing pets. The idea is that we will be able to chat with you about possible problems that you may be noticing, such as changes in weight, hunger, thirst, exercise tolerance, and general demeanour, which may be the first signs of disease.
We can offer a variety of diagnostic tests and treatment regimes if appropriate, or at least be able to put your mind at ease that all is well!
Please ask at reception for an appointment, or a handout to explain more about this service - an elderly pet does not have to be an ailing one.
